Glossary of Insurance Terms

A quick reference to common insurance terms to help you make more informed decisions about your coverage.

Child Care Liability Endorsement

Personal liability and medical payments to others coverages may be extended to provide liability for child care services for one to six children on or from the residence premises.

Contents Replacement Cost

The cost of replacing contents or personal property without deduction for depreciation.

Scheduled Personal Property

An endorsement that lists specific valuables — jewelry, watches, furs, cameras, fine art or collectibles — for an agreed amount, often with broader perils than the unscheduled contents limit. Carriers typically want an appraisal or a purchase receipt. Jewelry and watches on a standard homeowners form usually share a special theft limit unless they are scheduled. See covering jewelry, watches and personal property for how we use the inventory in a quote.

Extended Replacement Cost

Extends the dwelling coverage up to 125 percent of the set dwelling coverage.

Fair Credit Reporting Act

To underwrite your policy, various consumer reports were used. These reports provide information to assist with risk evaluation and risk placement. Your premiums were also determined, in part, from information contained in these reports. A consumer report was furnished by the consumer reporting agency listed below at our request for insurance underwriting purposes.

You have the right, under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, to obtain a free copy of your consumer report from the consumer reporting agency listed below. This request must be made no later than 60 days after your inquiry. In addition, if you find that information contained in the report you receive is inaccurate or incomplete, you have the right to dispute the matter with the consumer reporting agency. The consumer reporting agency did not make the decision regarding your policy and is unable to explain why the decision was made.
